2009 Miss Apple Blossom Pageant

Last night was the 2009 Miss Apple Blossom Pageant, a preliminary to Miss Virginia America. I truly enjoyed the pageant last night, as I was the 2001 Miss Apple Blossom and was able to show my support to this excellent program. In the picture 1, I am standing with Olivia Jimenez, the reigning Miss Virginia National, and she is getting ready to compete in Miss America National in California in 2 weeks. In picture 2, I am with the newly crowned Miss Apple Blossom 2009, Catlin Uze, and the 2008 Miss Apple Blossom, Madison VanDuyne, and the 2007 Miss Apple Blossom, Lauren Collier.

Catlin Uze, will go on to compete in the Miss Virginia Pageant 2009 in Roanoke, VA in June.

Miss Fitness New York Show 2008

Whew....just got back from New York and I am exhausted, but I had a blast. My "fitness buddy," Koren and I competed in the Miss Fitness New York Show this weekend and had a blast. Unfortunately, I did not place but I enjoyed the training and prep it took to get stage ready. I am currently contemplating competing in the Ms. Fitness Competition in Maryland in 3-weeks. Miss Shenandoah County Fair Pageant

I had a wonderful time yesterday judging the Miss Shenandoah County Fair Pageant, in Woodstock, VA. The pageant is the largest fair pageant in the state of VA with over 150 contestants. I judged the Miss contestants in interview at 12:00 PM and then I judged 51 other contestants in casual wear and evening gown from 5-10 PM. It was a long pageant. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Fitness Zone in Winchester, VA! Beth Baron, the General Manager, and all of the Fitness Zone staff and members were so supportive on my quest to the Mrs. United States 2008 Crown.

Whew! What a week! Well, I am sitting in the Las Vegas Airport and it is 10:00 PM and we leave at 11:00 PM. I had the most amazing time this week at the Mrs. United States Pageant. I can't believe that I was 4th runner-up. I am so excited. I had an amazing experience and my husband, Adam, could not be more proud. Gariane Gunter, Mrs. South Carolina, was very deserving and super sweet!

She will be an amazing Mrs. United States and have a wonderful reign. I am ready to get back to the East Coast and catch up on my sleep. I would like to send a HUGE thank you to my loyal fans, my parents who took their vacation in Las Vegas, to see their daughter on the BIG stage, my director, Siouxzan and all of my pageant sisters and especially my husband, Adam, because without him none of this would be possible.

Well, I am going to sign off, but I will keep you all posted on the rest of my year as your Mrs. Virginia United States 2008.

Wednesday Night Prelims

Last night was our prelim competition. We are all wearing red cocktail dresses! I am pictured above with Mrs. Wisconsin, Linn Weilbrenner. It was a lot of fun and now we have a full day of rehearsals today and the finals start tonight at 7:30 PM. They will be announcing a Top 12 and they will compete in swimsuit and evening gown and then a Top 5, and then the WINNER! I will keep you all posted and I thank you all for your continued support.

Hello Everyone, I am writing you from the beautiful Orleans Hotel and Casino. It is 4:15 PM and my interview is not until 10 PM tonight, so needless to say I have some down time. I am having a BLAST and I cannot thank my Director, Siouxzan Moore, my family and my roommate, Mrs. Maryland, enough. This has been an amazing experience. Hello, I had a blast today doing the new Miss Virginia's, Tara Wheeler, make-up for her official photo shoot in Charlottesville, VA. Tara was crowned on June 28th in Roanoke, VA. She is a very talented and geniune young lady and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her. I am also Tara's Fitness and Swimsuit Coach as she prepares for Miss America in January.

Miss Northern Virginia Pageant

I had a wonderful time yesterday being the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Miss Northern Virginia pageant that was held in Winchester, VA. The pageant included wee baby, baby, junior, petite, pre-teen, junior, senior, and miss divisions.

It was a fun appearance and I also had the opportunity to meet Miss Central Virginia, Shannon Beam, on her way to Roanoke to compete in the Miss Virginia America Pageant next week.

Today I attended the 1st Annual Secure Horizons Senior Health Fair.

As a SilverSneakers Account Manager, I had the opportunity to set up a display discussing the benefits of exercise and our motto: Get Fit, Have Fun & Make Friends!

I also had the opportunity to demonstrate some of the exercises that Seniors can expect in our SilverSneakers Fitness Program.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month and

May 31st is National Senior Health and Fitness Day!

I have been busy this month promoting fitness for all ages and making everyone aware that we are never too old to PLAY!

Today I had the amazing opportunity to do the Warm-Up activities at the Senior Power Walk in Patterson Park, in Baltimore, MD. I lead warm-up activities to over 200 Senior Citizens and the Baltimore Oriole Mascot! I had a great time and I love sharing my passion for fitness with people of ALL ages. May we all remember that we can add Life to our Years and Years to our Lives through EXERCISE!

KICKIN' HEART DISEASE!!!!

Today has been jam packed. After my radio interview this morning I was apart of the

Get Active America at the Fitness Zone in Winchester, VA! I signed autographs and was able to promote the Women's Heart Day at Cardio Xpress on May 17th and 18th!

Then, we KICKED HEART DISEASE, during the Cardio Kick-boxing class! Each participant donated money that will be given to the American Heart Association. The General Manager, Beth Baron, pictured in the middle, matched the donation and I will be presenting a check to the American Heart Association later this month.

We had a blast, and it was for a good cause!!!!!

What a busy week.......... Tomorrow is Women's Heart Day in Winchester!! I was on the WINC 1400 AM with Michael Haman this morning talking about women and heart disease! We discussed my P.L.A.Y program (Physical Lifelong Activity for You), because you are never too old to PLAY! Fitness should be fun, so pick something that you LOVE doing and stick to it! My Women's Heart Day Proclamation was passed with the help of Mayor Elizabetth Minor. Adam and I are hosting a "Women Workout FREE" days at Cardio Xpress on Saturday May 17th and Sunday May 18th from 10 AM - 4 PM!

Mrs. Virginia Promotes Heart Health

Lisa Lutz was crowned Mrs. Virginia United States in March, 2008.Her life long commitment to health and fitness made it easy for her to decide on her speaking platform."This year I decided to concentrate solely on the Heart Truth Campaign with women, and letting them know that this is a preventable disease and it's all due to our lifestyle.

We live in the only country in the world where our number one cause of death is due to our lifestyle," said Lutz.Its not just her pageant platform that focuses on heart health.Lisa and her husband are co-owners of Cardio Xpress, a 24-hour fitness studio that they opened last December. One of her goals is to make exercising easier for women.

"As women, everything else is more important- our family, our husbands, our homes, and sometimes even our cars. We will make time to get our cars washed, but we won't make time to go to the gym and take care of our health," she said.

Her commitment to women's health doesn't stop there.At her request Governor Kaine proclaimed May 11 through 18, as Virginia Women's Health Week."Twenty-five percent of Virginian women are obese, and seventy-five percent of them report doing no form of physical activity."

Lisa also partnered with Winchester Mayor Elizabeth Minor to declare May 17 as Women's Heart Day."It's just one day to set aside and say am I doing those things to keep my heart healthy and am I being that role model to others," said Lutz.

Cardio XPress is offering free workout session for women on Saturday May 17, and Sunday May 18 from 10am to 4pm.

Today was my interview with TV 3 Winchester! The interview was with Karen Farnsworth, Reporter. We discussed my Women's Heart Day Proclamation with Mayor Elizabeth Minor and the Women's Workout Day at Cardio Xpress. On May 17th and 18th women are encouraged to bring a friend and come to our fitness center, Cardio Xpress, and workout for FREE from 10 AM - 4 PM. We are encouraging women to put their health first!

25% of Virginia Women have been reported to be obese

75% of Virginia Women report no regular physical activity

These are statics that I plan on devoting my life to change.

National Women's Health Week

This week is National Women's Health Week!

I have a lot going on this week and I have been extremely busy advocating proper nutrition and regular physical activity for women, to help them decrease their risk of heart disease.
As you all know, I passed my "Women's Heart Day" Proclamation marking May 17th as Women's Heart Day in Winchester, VA.
Winchester TV 3 is doing an interview on me on Thursday at 4 PM at Cardio Xpress. They want to learn more about my Proclamation and our "Women Exercise FREE Days!" on May 17th and 18th at Cardio Xpress.

I will also be back on WINC 1400 AM with Michael Haman on Friday, May 16th at 8 AM discussing "Women's Heart Day" and I will be participating in a "Kick Heart Disease: Cardio-Kickboxing Class" on Friday at the Winchester Fitness Zone. All proceeds raised will go to the American Heart Association.

Also, Delegate Beverly Sherwood, is going to be presenting my "Women's Heart Day" Resolution to the House and Senate during the 2009 General Assembly. The future looks BRIGHT! Pictures will be forth coming. Thanks for all of your support.

Heart Truth Campaign Presentation - Woodstock, VA

I had an amazing time this evening. I was the Keynote Speaker at the Mother and Daughter Banquet at the Community Mission Church in Woodstock, VA. I had the opportunity to talk to 54 women about the preventable realities of heart disease, and how to recognize the risk factors of heart disease and the warning signs of a heart attack. This was a great group of women who are very motivated and ready to take charge of their health. I was so honored to be a part of their special night where the focus was on being spiritually and physically fit.

What an incredible night! I had a blast. My mom, pictured above and I, headed up to the Mrs. Delaware and Mrs. Maryland United States Pageant at 9 AM on Saturday May 4, 2008. I had the pleasure of meeting all of the beautiful contestants and being the personal make-up artisit for a few of them.

It was a long day, but very enjoyable. It was great to see Jennifer Phillips, Mrs. District of Columbia 2008 and Laura Price, Mrs. Delaware United States 2007, again. It was also an honor to meet Chiquita Battle, Mrs. Maryland United States 2007.

The pageant was held at Cecil College in Maryland, and the stage was filled with the most beautiful, talented, and accomplished women Delaware and Maryland had to offer.

Today at 8:30 AM I was on the WINC 1400 AM Radio Station (Winchester, VA) with the host, Michael Haman. I was able to talk about my year as Mrs. Virginia United States and the competition in March. This is also the weekend of the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA and I was Miss Apple Blossom Festival 2001. I am so excited. This is such an honor. I competed in the Miss America system for 6 years and I always welcome the opportunity to give back to these talented and accompolished young women. The Miss Virginia Pageant will be held in Roanoke, VA June 26th - 28th.

~ Women's Heart Day Proclamation ~

I wanted to let you all know that I was able to get my Women's Heart Day Proclamation passed for the city of Winchester. My proclamation was signed by the Mayor of Winchester, Elizabeth Minor, and it marks May 17th as Women's Heart Day in Winchester during Women's Health Week (May 11th - 17th ).

By taking this action the Mayor has greatly enhanced my efforts to improve awareness of women and heart disease in conjunction with the Heart Truth Campaign.
Only 57% of women know that heart disease is their leading cause of death and most fail to make the connection between the risk factors--such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol--and their personal risk of developing heart disease.

As Mrs. Virginia United States 2008 I am continuing to educate women on the benefits of a healthy diet and physical activity to lower their risk of developing this deadly disease.

I will be picking up my framed Proclamation and meeting with the Mayor on Monday April 21st! Pictures to follow.
